TIM CABLE PRESIDES OVER SPORT SCIENCE CONGRESS

Doha, 19 July 2016. Professor Tim Cable, Director of Sports Science in Aspire Academy, last week presided over the 21st Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science. This year the congress was held in Vienna, and Professor Cable welcomed 2783 delegates from around the world to celebrate scientific achievement and create new avenues of innovation in Sports Science.

The European College of Sport Science (ECSS) is the largest Sports Science organisation in the world and Tim is its President for the next 2 years. The College exists to disseminate the highest quality science by hosting an Annual Congress in a different European city each year, and also to showcase and empower the work of young scientist by running a series of Young Investigator awards.

The Annual Congress in Vienna, received 1911 abstract submissions, and delegates attended from 66 countries around the global.  Across the 4 days of the meeting 4 plenaries, 36 invited symposia and 320 oral and poster sessions (of 4 or more papers) were delivered in subject areas that span the multidisciplinary areas of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

The Congress now moves on to Germany in 2017 and Dublin in 2018.  Professor Cable commented “The ECSS Congress is a fantastic event that has grown since the very first congress in Nice in 1996.  Its showcases the very best science from around the world and encourages young people working in our discipline to find solutions to the real world issues in enhancing performance and combating lifestyle diseases”.
