Athletics

Upon joining Aspire Academy, the student-athletes are introduced to the full spectrum of athletic disciplines. As they mature and develop through the programme the student-athletes begin to specialise in the event group for which they were chosen and/or in which they show the greatest potential.

The focus of the Athletics programme is to develop strong, fit and technically proficient athletes who, upon graduation, will pursue their athletic talent as part of the Qatar Athletics Federation Junior and Senior National Teams.

The Athletics programme develops a structured and specific Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) plan for all student-athletes. The key objective of the Athletics programme is to develop student-athletes’ technical, physical, behavioural and psychological components. The programme instills a philosophy and sports culture within student-athletes that provide the foundation for successful champions.

The development plan for Athletics has a structured framework specific to age, ability and relative performance measures. This programme has key development phases and objectives which are critical in student-athletes’ sporting and pedagogical development.

The development pathway of all student-athletes is closely monitored and adjusted according to individual needs. The Athletics programme strategy is built on the holistic development of all athletes, coaching life skills through sport, developing habits for a healthy life, gaining international exposure and experience, and representing Aspire Academy and Qatar at international championship levels. Competition strategy is crucial to the development pathway of all athletes. Aspire Academy ensures that all student-athletes have a structured competition schedule related to their Long-Term Athlete Development plan. The coaching staff, using the expertise of the sports science and medical teams, monitor student-athletes’ progress with the appropriate analysis techniques and expert planning. Ultimately, Aspire Academy prepares student-athletes to compete for Qatar’s National Teams at international tournaments including World Junior and Youth Championships, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Arab and Asian Championships.
