Sports Programme

The focus of Aspire Academy’s Sport Programme is on Fencing, Squash, Table Tennis and ten different disciplines in Athletics.

Over just three Olympic Games cycles, Aspire has become a unique high-performance academy, developing a sustainable pipeline of young elite athletes with a great potential and outlook for Qatar at Olympic Games and World Championships.

Aspire Graduates at Olympic Games: One at London 2012, four at Rio 2016 and ambitions to qualify ten for Tokyo 2020 and 15 for Paris 2024. Our graduate Mutaz Barshim won Qatar’s first ever Silver medal at Rio 2016, after his London bronze. Qatar has the potential to be amongst the Top Ten nations globally in the Doha IAAF World Championships 2019 (with one of the youngest competing squads). In Squash, we are working our way up the global PSA rankings with our graduate Abdulla Al-Tamimi.

In Table Tennis, we aspire to have an Academy athlete competing at Tokyo 2020. Fencing has been added to our core sports and will soon contribute to our pipeline of world-class athletes. These groups are amongst the best in the world in terms of developing elite athletes from a very limited pool of talents. It is testimony for the capacity of Qatar as a highly successful sporting nation.
