Doha, 10 November 2016. Aspire Academy gets its first ever professional squash tournament underway this week, with matches beginning on Thursday 24th November at 5pm. The event which will take place at Aspire Academy squash courts will feature almost all of the best squash players from Qatar fighting it out for valuable Professional Squash Association (PSA) world ranking points.
Aspire scholarship holder and world number 208 Syed Azlan Amjad is the number one seed and tournament favourite, but will have to overcome some tough opposition if he is to lift the inaugural trophy. His likely semi-final opponent is former world top 60 player Mohammed El-Said from Jordan, who will provide a serious test for the Aspire graduate student and Azlan will have to be at his very best to beat the experienced campaigner.
On the other side of the draw, number 2 seed and world number 282 Abdulrahman Al-Malki is seeded to meet Aspire scholarship athlete Umair Zaman in his semi-final. This promises to be one of the matches of the tournament with the fast improving Zaman looking to get his first ever win over the Qatar number 3. Zaman however will first have to negotiate his way around the talented Ahmed Al-Tamimi, brother to Abdulla Al-Tamimi, who he is seeded to meet in the quarter-finals.
