Doha, 21 May 2017. Aspire Academy graduate Syed Azlan Amjad maintained his winning record in the Aspire Academy Closed Satellite series in emphatic style last week, powering his way through the field without dropping a game. Playing with improved concentration and discipline, Amjad’s performances were impressive throughout the event, but particularly in the final against fellow Aspire scholarship holder Umair Zaman. Amjad played faultless squash throughout the match, never allowing Zaman the opportunity to establish himself, and won comfortably 11/4 11/4 11/6.
Zaman’s route to the final was somewhat trickier, having to fight back from 2 games to 1 down against Qatar number 3 Abdulrahman Al-Malki in his semi-final. Whilst Zaman will probably feel he could have performed better, this was his first ever win over Al-Malki and so still represents good progress.
Elsewhere in the draw, grade 11 student Hamad Al-Amri reached his second semi-final in a row, but had to work hard for it as he was pushed all the way by grade 9 student Waleed Zaman in an unexpectedly close quarter final.
Four other Aspire students also participated in the event, gaining valuable experience.
