Doha, 15 December 2015. Once again, Aspire’s MSSD Girls’ Fencing group attended the Grand Prix event with their coaches last month. This year’s event was held at the Al-Saad Multi-sport Hall. During the visit our girls met with players, watched the matches, made their own analysis of games and produced match reports.
Fencing program lead, Mariana McElligott said: “It was a great opportunity for our girls to watch top-flight Fencers competing live in Qatar. There is only limited competition available at present for our girls, so to see the experts is a real bonus. We were also able to meet with and talk to some of the competitors, which was a fantastic experience for the girls. We would like to thank our head coach, Sabrina Voss and the organizers of the event for their help in making this possible.”
Aspire’s MSSD Girls’ Fencing program selects girls who show potential through school visits and teacher nominations. Girls learn all the fencing disciplines before being given the opportunity to specialize. The aim is to provide the opportunity for girls to move into the Qatar Fencing Federation’s national junior squads.
