Doha, 7 December 2015. Aspire Academy’s football pitches hosted last week the fourth Tri-Series tournament of the 2015-2016 season, which put the Academy’s U-11, U-10 and U-9 feeder teams up against their counterparts from Dutch team Groningen FC and Thai team Buriram United FC.
At the end of the exciting 3-day tournament, the Academy’s youth football teams added the U-9 title to their rapidly growing list of victories, while Groningen FC returned to the Netherlands with the U-10 and U-11 trophies.
Commenting on the fourth Tri-Series tournament, Roberto Olabe, Football Director at the Academy said: “It is exciting to have some of our feeder teams out on the pitch and competing in the Tri-Series tournament, building on the recent successes of our older generation teams. It is very beneficial to the development of our boys to be able to expose them to a variety of playing tactics and styles from a young age, and we hope that the Tri-Series continues to expand the horizons of their growth”.
During their stay in Qatar, the visiting teams stayed at the Torch and Grand Heritage Hotels. On the days when they were not competing in the tournament, the teams were given a tour of Doha and visited a number of the city’s best-known tourist attractions and important landmarks, learning about Qatari history and culture.
