Doha, 20 April 2015. Throughout its history, Aspire Academy has constantly shown the ambition to share expertise to support the development of young athletes on a global level. As a recent example, the Academy gave two young sporting talents from the Seychelles the opportunity to come to Doha and train at Aspire Academy.
Table tennis player Nicholas Ester and high jumper Norris Jean Brioche (both 16) attended Aspire Academy for ten days in February and March to utilise the Academy’s facilities and gain support from the sport science team. They were put through the same rigorous medical screening and physical tests as the Academy student-athletes to evaluate where they currently stand in their development as athletes. During their stay they also joined the Academy’s training groups and enjoyed training alongside the Academy athlete’s.
“Both boys showed good natural talent and the determination to succeed,” said Chris Earle, Director of Sports. “The number of athletes in the Seychelles is not high and the opportunity to be coached alongside our student-athletes gave them the chance to join a thriving and vibrant training group. We are happy to be able to support them in fulfilling their full potential and to support their home country in developing young athletes in the future.”
The Academy will continue to support sport in the Seychelles by sending its Talent Identification team there with the objective of helping local coaches set up a more effective scouting system. Furthermore, high jumper Brioche will be offered the chance to spend some more time with the Academy’s high jump group in Doha and at international training camps in the future.
