Doha, 1 May 2016. Building on the success of the inaugural ‘Samla Desert Extreme Trek’ in 2014, the second edition of this exciting and demanding expedition across the rough and beautiful landscape of Qatar took place in April, featuring participants from Aspire Academy.
Rasid Al-Mansoori, a graduate of Aspire Academy, and Mohamed Ahmed Al-Obaidly, team guide at the Academy, both participated in this year’s event and successfully completed a number of challenges. These included climbing at Zekreet, zip line and water running, swimming, sniper shooting, pigeon shooting, cars repair and dunes' challenges.
The race started on April 9 and lasted four days, covering some 172 kilometres. The event was divided into four stages covering a series of remote and culturally significant locations around Qatar – starting from the historical site of Zubarah and finishing in Ezba. Al-Mansoori and Al-Obaidly both performed strongly and finished the ‘Samla Desert Extreme Trek’ by winning silver awards.
