Aspire Academy’s Ramadan athletics series concluded on Monday evening with several student-athletes walking away with prizes for their performances.
The series, hosted at Aspire Academy's outdoorts athletics facility, featured a variety of different age groups competing in several track and field events.
The opening event was restricted to Aspire Academy student-athletes with the remaining ones open to male and female competitors from outside the academy.
The series attracted international athletes, from the UK and India, as well some from local clubs.
The Qatar Athletics Federation also entered several athletes in various events as they continue to prepare for the upcoming outdoor season.
Among the highlights of the final event on 18 April was Qatar’s former Asian record holder Femi Ogunode and his brother Tosin taking part in the 100m.
Aspire Academy’s Head Athletics Coach, Tom Crick, explained the main objectives behind the events.
“The Ramadan Series aimed to provide an opportunity for athletes in Qatar to compete against international opposition on home soil,” he explained.
“It’s also registered with World Athletics so athletes can gain world ranking points.”
