Aspire Academy recently hosted International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) High Performance Training Camp for Under-15 and Under-19 Boys and Girls.

The eight-day intense training camp was held a week before the WTT Youth Star Contender Doha.

Paddlers from the host country Qatar, Romania, Australia, India, Austria and Kazakhstan participated in the boys’ camp while the girls’ camp had players from Romania, India, Italy, Croatia and Ireland.

Two training sessions per day were held at the state-of-the-art Aspire Academy that helped the paddlers prepare for the WTT competition.

Japan’s Miwa Harimoto won the girls’ U15 and U19 titles while Chinese Taipei’s Feng Yi-Hsin and Japan’s Tamito Watanabe won the U19 and U15 boys’ titles respectively.

“I thank everyone for giving the Qatari players the opportunity to join the camp. It was a very valuable experience for our young players,” said Aspire Academy Table-Tennis head coach, Peter Karlsson.

The camp brought together athletes and coaches who worked under ITTF High Performance Elite Coach Massimo Costantini.

“I’m very happy with the camp. The atmosphere at the Aspire Academy was good and with professional coaches like Peter Karlsson. The Academy also provided their own players at the camp. These academy boys are motivated and good. The Academy have all the knowledge around them, and everything was in the right place for these plyers,” said Costantini, who represented his native country Italy at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.

The players received technical and tactical lessons under Austrian coach Liu Yanjun.

“It was a high-level training camp and very well organized. I hope in the future that ITTF organizes such kind of high-quality camp more often,” said Liu.

A daily fitness session, which focused on flexibility and agility of the body was also conducted by Aspire Academy’s fitness coach Catalin Ionita.
