Manchester, 10 December 2017. Aspire Academy graduate and PSA World No. 37 Abdulla Al-Tamimi made a name for himself at the 2017 AJ Bell World Championships in Manchester by defeating World No. 9 player Simon Rösner in the opening round of the world’s biggest squash tournament.
The 22-year-old came back from behind to secure a thrilling 3-2 win against the German, who had won the previous two encounters against the Qatari on the PSA World Tour. Defeating the top 10 player is another career highlight for Al-Tamimi, who recently triumphed at the Qatar Circuit No. 4 tournament in Doha.
“It’s definitely my biggest win. I am pleased how I came back after losing the first game and this achievement gives me a lot of confidence. After winning in Doha I wanted to back it up with a good match today and I am glad it worked out this way,” Al-Tamimi said after the match.
