Doha, 31 December 2015: Qatar’s under-23 national team ended their preparations in Doha on a positive note by beating Yemen 1-0 on Wednesday night, just before they fly to their training camp in Antalya, Turkey today.
KAS Eupen striker and Aspire Academy graduate Akram Afif scored the winning goal (47’) in the friendly at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium, three days after his team lost 0-2 in another friendly against Uzbekistan.
During their training camp in Turkey, the U23 team will play a friendly against Iceland on January 6 and then return to Doha for their final preparations for the 2016 AFC U23 Championship, which will take place in Qatar from January 12-30.
Qatar’s U23 team will face Syria, Iran and China PR in group A. The top three sides from the tournament will then earn places in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
