Doha, 17 September 2015. Perfect start for hosts Qatar in the first qualifying game for the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship in India on Wednesday evening: the team of Aspire Academy student-athletes celebrated a convincing 5-0 win over Turkmenistan and are currently ranked first in Group C.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd at Aspire Dome, the team of head coach Arno Buitenweg showed a very focused and engaged performance that ended in a clear 5-0 victory thanks to goals scored by Ahmed Al Janahi (10’), Mohammed Abdul Rahman (42’), Hisham Ali (61’), Saleh Saeed (84’) and Hisham Ali Samuffineh (90’).

“It’s always good to start with a win, but we are well aware that the most difficult games are still in front of us. Iraq and Tajikistan are both very strong teams and if we want to qualify we need convincing performances in both games”, said Qatar Head Coach Buitenweg.
Qatar is facing Iraq on Friday, September 18, at 7pm; the final game in Group C against Tajikistan takes place on Sunday, September 20 at 4pm.
