Aspire Academy student-athlete Hassan Waly has won his third consecutive FIP Promises Under-18 title with victory at the Damac Dubai event in the United Arab Emirates.
The victory, with his Spanish playing partner Javier Bolumar, comes after their wins in Portugal and Egypt in April.
The duo dropped just five games on their way to the finals, which included a win over the top seeds at the tournament.
They also beat another Aspire Academy student-athlete, Ali Abdulrahman Al-Malik and the UAE’s Majid Alabdulla in the quarter-finals.
In the final, they overcame Spain’s Mario Brocal, who is Europe’s top-ranked under-16 player, and Eisa Ahli of the UAE, 6-3, 6-0.
Aspire Academy Senior Padel Coach, Ignacio Gorbea, feels Hassan Waly and Javier Bolumar have a bright future playing together.
“We are very happy with the way they are playing and with the commitment Hassan Waly is showing,” the coach said.
“He and Javi make a great pair, and continue to improve with every tournament. We are confident there is more to come from them and that they can go from strength to strength.”
“They can take a lot of confidence moving forward, not only because they have won their third consecutive victory on the international FIP Promises circuit, but also from their performances at the events against some high-quality opponents.”
Hassan Waly will now represent Qatar at the 4th GCC Games on home soil, with the padel event hosted at Aspire Academy’s Dome.
Two other Aspire Academy student-athletes, Abdulrahman Alyafei and Essa Al-Kuwari, also featured at the tournament but unfortunately lost to Mario Brocal and Eisa Ahli, who emerged victorious in the under-16 category.
Five Aspire Academy student-athletes competed in the under-16 draw, with Ali Ebrahim Al-Malik and Essa Al-Kuwari reaching the semi-finals, where they lost to the eventual winners.
Elias Lejmi and Hamad Almodadi won their opening match but narrowly lost 6-4, 7-5 in the last sixteen to the number three seeds.
Another duo who lost to the winners was student-athlete Nawaf Alyafei, who was playing alongside Kuwait’s Abdulrahman Bineedan.
Aspire Academy were also represented in the under-14’s with Elias Lejmi and Nawaf Alyafei, who won one and lost one in the group stages, which was not enough for them to progress to the semi-finals.
The Promises Tour is the International Padel Federation’s (FIP) tournament series for various age groups from under-12 to under-18, designed to develop young players through high-level international competition.
