Beijing, 23 August 2015. The IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China turned out to be another confirmation of Ashraf Amgad Elseify’s great potential: the Aspire Academy graduate ensured a first Qatari presence in a men’s hammer final, where he finished 9th on Sunday.
For the 20-year-old, who graduated from Aspire Academy in 2014, it was another step towards the elite in hammer throw. Following his move to Qatar in 2011, he started training with former Soviet hammer thrower Alexey Malyukov and it didn’t took long for him to excel. In the same year he set a World Youth best of 85.26m in Rhede, Germany to become the first youth hammer thrower in history to break the 85m barrier.
His greatest achievements before Beijing were winning Gold medals at the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships 2012 in Barcelona, Spain with a record-breaking throw of 85.57m and then again at the 15th IAAF World Junior Championships 2014 in Eugene, USA. In the process, he became the first athlete in the history of the World Junior Athletics Championships to successfully defend his title.
In his preparation for Beijing he gave proof of his good form by winning the Silver medal at the 2015 Asian Championships in Wuhan, China in June.
