20 Aug 2015

Doha, 20 August 2015. From Thursday, August 20 until Saturday, August 29, the Aspire Dome is becoming the arena for some of the region’s best young football players of the age group 2000: In the 12th edition of the ‘GCC U-17 Championship’ six countries are competing for the trophy.

The teams of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, UAE and Qatar are competing in two groups for the four semi-final tickets. Qatar, a team comprised of student-athletes of Aspire Academy, is going to face Saudi Arabia on Thursday, August 20 at 6:45pm and UAE on Monday, August 24 at 4pm in Group B. The semi-finals will be held on August 27, and the final will be played on August 29.

“This competition is quite important for the development of our players and it’s also a great preparation for the Asian Cup qualification. The teams we are facing in the group stage are both very strong, but we always compete to win and will give our best to make it to the semi-finals. It’s not easy, but it’s also not impossible,” said Qatar head coach Arno Buitenweg.
