?Doha, 5 November 2014. “Doha GOALS Forum”, the premier platform for world leaders to advance social and economic change through sport, is back for a third successive year on November 3 – 5 at the Aspire Academy in Doha. The event is held under the high patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.
“Doha GOALS Forum” - a Gathering of All Leaders In Sport - is an initiative designed as a "Call to Action" for the role that sport plays as a driver for social and economic change. The initiative, launched in 2012 from the Aspire Zone Foundation and Richard Attias & Associates, builds a community of global influencers from all industries who believe that sport is a crucial vehicle for social and economic development. The event brings together heads of state, policymakers, innovators, NGOs and foundations, sports scientists, physicians, federation heads, academics, athletes, corporate executives, competitors, and students: the leaders of tomorrow from around the world to create opportunities for sport-based global development.
The 2014 “Doha GOALS Forum” is focused on sport's place in national and state policy and has set out to highlight the contributions and viewpoints of heads of state, as well as corporate leaders, sports practitioners, experts and executives is sports associations. The Forum, the third of its kind, welcomed more than 120 speakers, 1,500 participants and 400 students across the two and a half days, and aspires to establish new initiatives that will progress the world through sport.
This year’s edition again featured big names of the sport’s world including two-time boxing heavyweight champion George Foreman, former German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, Olympic 100 meters gold medalist Linford Christie, six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker or eight-time NBA All-Star Dikembe Mutombo.
