Doha, 2 September 2018. Aspire Academy is excited to begin the new academic year 2018-19 and September 2, 2018 marks the first day of school for 286 student-athletes from grades seven to twelve, including 79 new-joiners that have been selected by Aspire Academy’s talent identification process or have been referred to Aspire by Qatari sports federations.
"I would like to welcome staff, teachers, students and parents to the new academic year. I also would like to express a special welcome to the new students that join us this year. Seventy-nine (79) of them have completed the registration procedures, while 11 are still in process. You are beginning a new chapter in your life and I encourage you to work hard, be determined, be disciplined and make the most of the opportunities Aspire Academy has to offer. Then you will have the chance to become one of the country’s future elite athletes,” says School Principal Jassem Al-Jaber.
According to Principal Jassem Al-Jaber, the achievements of Aspire graduates at the 2018 Asian Games including medals for Ashraf Elseify, who won gold in the Men’s Hammer Throw, and Abubaker Haydar, who took home a bronze medal in the Men’s 800m, have a positive impact on the school spirit. “The success achieved in Indonesia is the fruit of the excellent collaboration between several government institutions and Aspire Academy is proud to be one of them. The medals won by athletes that have graduated from Aspire Academy serve as motivation to the current student athletes. They know that if they put in all the effort possible and believe in what we are doing at Aspire Academy they too will be equally successful.”
The new school years also marks the introduction of the new school facilities located in the extension of Aspire Academy , that includes new building which contains 8 classrooms, 2 languages labs, a library and the “Educational Resources Center” which will help to provide excellent education to meets the Academy’s vision.
A special focus in the 2018-19 academic year is the introduction of the electronic curriculum – instead of using school books, students work exclusively with tablets. “In the current academic year, we in the academy school have shifted to electronic content through e-learning, e-content and e-assessment which is a huge transformational step that we have worked on for quite some time now. This year we are at the stage of officially starting this new step that goes hand in hand with Aspire Academy global vision and leads to our continuing development process,” explained Master Teacher Dr. Ali Fawaz Al Dwairi.
Students, as well as teachers and staff, are looking forward to the new school year. One of them is 12-year-old Mohammed Jabir Afifa, who is joining the Academy’s football program. “I am very excited and happy to be here today. It has always been my dream to enroll at Aspire Academy and now that I am here at this prestigious institution I am very grateful and motivated to become one of the best players the Academy has ever had.”
