AL SOWAIDI: “I WANT TO COMPETE FOR A WORLD TITLE”

24 Feb 2015

Doha, 24 February 2015. Not only for the students of Aspire Academy does sport plays an important role in their life. Some employees also actively pursue sporting careers besides their job at Aspire Academy. One example is Nasser Al Sowaidi, a racing driver, who has represented the State of Qatar with distinction in the 2015 ‘Arabian Drag Racing League’ season.

Cars have always fascinated Nasser and from the day he got his driving license his life has revolved around engines. “I started tuning engines when I was quite young and I invest a lot of time in cars especially since I started professional racing three years ago,” said Al Sowaidi, who broke the World Record in the IRS Supra category two weeks ago. He has also had a successful year in the ‘Arab Drag Race League’ which is the strongest competition of its kind in the Middle East since it started in 2008. He won the ADRL race in the super street 6-cylinder category and finished the 2015 overall championship in 2nd place.

“It’s a strong competition and, beside the best race drivers from the Middle East, professionals from the United States, Sweden and Australia compete in the championship. This season I have beaten some big name drivers with much more experience and that has motivated me to want to compete in the States for a world title – because that’s where drag racing comes from,” he tells about his future goals. A future that also has an educational aspect: due to his earlier successes in the Al Anabi dragster program he has also been working as an instructor of the program for three years to pass on his experience to younger drivers.
