02 May 2016

Doha, 2 May 2016. Fast rising teenage Sri Lankan high jumper, Roshan Ranatungage, is currently taking part in a month long training camp at Aspire Academy ahead of his participation at next month’s 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Vietnam.

Roshan, who turns 18 on 10th May 2016, was invited by Aspire Academy to train at the world leading sports facility after clearing a personal best of 2.13m during his last visit at an athletic meeting in Doha in November 2015. Roshan and his coach Thiron Godagamge will train with Aspire Academy student athletes until 26th May 2016.

Roshan said he was excited to be back at Aspire and was looking forward to working with Aspire Academy’s Jumps Coach Lubos Benko and the Academy’s jumps team. Roshan went on to say: “It’s my third time in Qatar and l always enjoy coming here. My coach and l are really happy to be able to come and train and prepare for the forthcoming competition in Vietnam. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to be able to use the world class facilities they have here at Aspire.”

His coach Thiron added: “It’s a real privilege to have the opportunity to train at Aspire Academy with Roshan and it will no doubt give him a competitive edge when he comes to compete in Vietnam next month. Our target for this year is to see Roshan jump 2.20m and with the facilities at Aspire l believe we can achieve that goal.”
