Gorgan, 3 August 2019. Huge success for Qatar’s squash national team at the 3rd West Asia Men’s Squash Championship 2019 in Iran: The Qatari team put up a superb display and won three medals, including an individual title through Aspire Academy graduate Abdulla Al-Tamimi on Sunday.
The Qatari team, coached by Umer Zaman and managed by Yousef Salem al Malki, was represented by Al-Tamimi, Syed Azlan Amjad, Hamad Mohammad al Amri and Ibrahim Ahmed al Darwish. Qatar finished the team competition with the silver medal after a close 1-2 defeat against Iran in the final.
In the individual competition, two Aspire Academy graduates secured two medals for Qatar: Besides champion Al-Tamimi, who defeated Iran’s Sajad Zareian in the final, fellow Aspire-graduate Syed Azlan Amjad won the bronze medal for qualifying for the semi-finals, where he faced Al-Tamimi.
After his gold medal performance, Al-Tamimi said: “I would to thank everyone who stood with me and supported me to get this achievement. I feel proud to become the first Qatari to win the West Asia individual gold medal.”
