06 Feb 2013

Boca Juniors last night took third place in this year’s Al Kass International Cup after a penalties triumph against Inter Milan.Goalkeeper Matias Budiño was the Argentinian side’s hero as he pulled off several fine shootout saves to secure a 3-2 win after the game had finished 2-2 after 90 minutes. Pride was at stake and Boca’s class on the night ensured they would return back to Buenos Aires on a winning note. Jose Malleo, Boca’s Head Coach, said: “We are pleased to end our experience with third place. Our win against Inter Milan was of high quality and the team performed well.”   “I have been very impressed by the teams in the tournament and the tournament itself has been of a very high standard.” It was also a night that saw the Aspire Qatar and Aspire International triumph over their European counterparts at the Aspire Academy in Doha.    Aspire International snatched fifth place following an intense penalty shootout which saw them beat Italian giants Real Madrid 4 - 2.  International’s Erich Andoh was the hero of the night, saving two spot kicks from the Spaniards.   With full time play ending level at 2-2, International held their nerve to win the game.   Over on pitch two, Aspire Qatar produced a dominant display in their match with Liverpool FC. Coming back from a goal down, Qatar beat the Reds 3-1.   A brace from Fahad Abdulrahman and Akram Afif’s penalty reversed Louis Robles opener as the home side capped off their Al Kass International Cup campaign finishing in seventh place. Liverpool failed to create any serious chances, enjoying spells of possession but no final product. Husam Hassanin excelled on the wing and got the better of Maguire on several occasions.  On Thursday, reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain and Fluminense FC will battle to win the Al Kass International Cup which kicks off at the Aspire Academy at 16:30.  The match will be followed by a spectacular closing ceremony to bring to a close a hugely succesfull two weeks of international football.
