Fluminense Meet Paris Saint-Germain

04 Feb 2013

Fluminense FC blasted into a place in the final of the Al Kass International Cup, meeting defending Champions Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazilian team matched Inter Milan’s steeliness in midfield and then triumphed as their attacking flair ultimately shone through in a 3-1 win.  It was a well-deserved victory for ‘O Tricolor’ who have brought some samba style to this year’s Al Kass International Cup with their free-flowing football. Flu’s talented attacking trio of Kenedy, Denilson Pereira and Robert Santos combined well throughout the game to create numerous good chances. While Inter striker Francesco Bigotto missed an early chance to put his side in front when he shot wide from just six yards out after good work down the left from Fabio Eguelfi. Fluminense’s smooth passing game was disrupted by the strong winds they were playing into as the Italian’s sought to take an early advantage from the weather conditions. Defending Champions Paris Saint-Germain booked their place after a dramatic penalty showdown with Boca Juniors, ultimately triumphing 7-6 in sudden death in what was an emotionally charged game. In a match worthy of the final, Boca keeper Zappacosta Raul saw his decisive spot kick saved by Mike Maignan as the dreaded match decider went to sudden death. Also in action today to decide the remaining play off places were Real Madrid who came from behind to beat Liverpool 2 - 0 and Aspire International who won the battle of bragging rights triumphing over Aspire Qatar in a match that ended 3-0.
