DEVELOPMENT TEAM TRAINS IN OMAN

01 Jan 2019

Muscat, 1 January 2019. Six boys from Aspire Academy’s Athletics Development Team attended a 10-day training camp in Oman over the inter-semester break. Under the supervision of coaches Rudy Sopko and Martin Brockman they had their first experience of an intensive training camp, which was designed to prepare them for more extensive camps as they move into the Performance team in September 2019. For many of the athletes it was also an opportunity to prepare for the GCC U18 Championships that will be held in Doha from 20-22 February 2019.

“Even though it was only a short flight to Oman, the change of environment and distraction free training allows the 14- and 15-year-olds to experience what is like to be a serious athlete. Camps like these are a real team effort with coaches Rudy Sopko and Martin Brockman leading the training, backed up by physio Abdallah and delegation leader Khalid. This year we also took Aspire graduate Nuh Andu to both provide a role model for the younger boys and undertake his final preparations before starting a new chapter in the NCAA with the University of Akron”, said Tom Crick, Head of Athletics at Aspire Academy.
