Doha, 4 December 2018. Aspire Academy has organised its first interactive forum on "Teaching Arabic for non-native speakers". Those in attendance on Monday consisted of teachers and Arabic-language enthusiasts. The forum is organised by a vast number of renowned local educational institutes, schools in all its stages, universities, language learning centers, Quran memorization centers, and charities.
The first forum commenced with the theme “Faith and Development” and witnessed a crowd of more than 100 specialties in the field. Participants were taught about authentic teaching strategies through active and informative seminars. Participants were also taught about vital skills that will enable them to excel when learning the Arabic language.
Speaking at the forum, Aspire Academy’s school Principle, Jassem Al-Jaber, expressed his utmost appreciation to the participants as they showed such an immense level of commitment to the development of their own Arabic language.
The Principle, added; “Arabic is the native language of about 480 million people residing in this region, which stretches from Southwest Asia to Northwest Africa. This is an opportunity to highlight the historical role, the deep culture and civilization the language carries.”
The forum comes in the context of Aspire Academy’s vision to nurture its student-athletes with an open and universal mind. Aspire Academy is a multicultural school; Arabic speakers get to exchange knowledge and culture with non-Arabic speakers. This idea was extended to serve the community by collaborating with educational institutions and developing cognitive performance by teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, thus extending the idea to international communities.
The aim of the Forum is to establish a cultural and cooperative Educational Association in the State of Qatar, concerned with non-Arabic speakers and to elevate them to the best possible level in mastering the skills of the Arabic language like other native speakers.
Under the supervision of Aspire Academy and other educational institutes in Qatar, through that association, solutions can be found to many obstacles to education, and will address the challenges faced in learning Arabic.
In addition, the association will stress on the exchange of experiences, discussions and mutual visits. A website will also be established to contain fun activities and ideas, involving all specialists in the field.
The main recommendations of the Forum:
- Organizing mutual workshops amongst the participating institutions. The forum will be held periodically to outline the achievements and to discuss new projects.
- Examinations will be done to test the student’s level in order to tailor the teaching technique to each individual.
- The obligation to teach in simplified classical Arabic language, taking into consideration the use of the daily dialogue to facilitate understanding.
- Implementing advanced technology within the teaching approach.
- Develop the Arabic vocabulary in terms of word relations (singular, plural and antonyms)
- The Forum aspires to prepare non-native speakers to fluently speak Arabic within a few years.
