Doha, 4 January 2019. Cold, snow and ice in Europe – perfect climate, perfect infrastructure in Doha. More and more world-class teams are taking advantage of Aspire Academy’s facilities to prepare for the spring season. From Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven and PSG to elite clubs from Russia - the 2019 winter at Aspire has a lot to offer in terms of international football.
In the course of the past few years, Qatar has developed into an exclusive training camp destination. For the ninth time in a row, FC Bayern Munich chose Doha for their winter preparations. The German champion kicked off the camp season at Aspire Academy arriving on January 4, taking a 29-man roster to the Qatari capital complete with 25 outfield players and four goalkeepers.
Looking forward to the six-day training camp, FC Bayern head coach Niko Kovac briefly outlined what he wants to work on: “We want to fine-tune a lot of things in Doha, including fitness and technical-tactical elements, and we have to begin preparing for our first opponent so we can get off to a good start at Hoffenheim.”
Bayern Munich are scheduled to visit from 4 January – 10 January, Holland’s PSV Eindhoven from 5 - 12 January, Belgium’s Club Brugge from 5-12 January and KAS Eupen from 8-13 January, Persepolis, the Iranian football team, from 8 - 19 January, and Paris Saint-Germain from 13 – 17 January.
In preparation for the Russian league, Aspire Zone will also host a mini championship between a number of Russian clubs from 20 January – 31 January. Spartak Moscow will be in Doha from the 19 – 30 January, FC Rostov and FC Lokomotiv Moscow from 20 - 30 January, and FC Zenit Saint Petersburg from 15 to 27 January.
