Aspire Academy, in collaboration with Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education, hosted a forum for those offering psychological and social counselling in schools with a special focus on “Promoting the well-being of school students”.
More than 100 delegates from almost as many schools attended the forum at Aspire Academy to hear from five experts on various topics.
Two of Aspire Academy’s specialists in student well-being, Dr Mohamed Alanazi, Senior Student Counsellor and Dalal Al Mulla, Lead Family and Student Services Supervisor, were among the five speakers.
Dr Alanazi discussed ‘Effective means of solving students’ psychological and social problems,’ and Ms Al Mulla talked about ‘The Socio-psychological challenges on strength and integration.’
They were joined by two speakers from the Qatar Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr Ahmed Khaled Al-Hadidi and Jaber Al-Irq Al-Marri, as well as social specialist Hossam al-Din Mohammad Al-Atkawi from Tariq bin Ziyad Secondary School for Boys.
Dr Al-Hadidi praised the event: "First of all, on behalf of the Department of School Affairs and Students at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, I would like to thank Aspire Academy for hosting and organising this conference.”
“I think that this is one of the most successful conferences we have held, and the participants left with tangible benefits from the event.”
“The participants engaged in a positive exchange of information and cooperation, which was facilitated by the interaction between the psychologists and the social workers.”
“It has been a great collaboration between the Academy and the Ministry to organise this very important forum.”
Aspire’s Student Affairs Services Manager, Abdul Aziz Al-Jedaia, opened the forum and highlighted the Academy’s dedication to the mental health of its student-athletes.
"This meeting comes as a confirmation of our interest in Aspire Academy to promote the psychological and social well-being of our student-athletes,” he said.
“As a community, we aim to prevent mental and social health problems. We seek to do this by providing the best support we can by sharing experiences in this field with the rest of the schools in the country.”
“We can then take practical steps to implement the ideas through mentors, psychologists and social workers."
During the event, Dr Al-Hadidi spoke about ‘Working with the family and school to achieve psychological well-being’, while Mr Al-Marri talked about the ‘Impact of bullying and electronic media’.
Mr Al-Atkawi offered his insights during the forum on 'Skills for dealing with students' psychological and social problems'.
