Doha, 25 April 2019. Aspire graduates Musab Ali Adam, Ashraf Amjad El Seify, Abdalla Abubaker and Bassem Hemeida helped Qatar Athletics Team add more medals to their tally on the last day of the 23rd Asian Athletics Championship held at Khalifa International Stadium. El Seify clinched a silver medal in the hammer throw while Abubaker and Hemeida were part of 4 x 400m relay quartet who won bronze medal on Wednesday 24th April.
El Seify’s best throw of 73.76m in men’s hammer throw final put him second to Tajikistan’s Dilshod Nazarov, who recorded his season’s best distance of 76.14 to win a gold medal. El Seify said after winning silver, “It took me some time to find rhythm because it was cold today, but it happens with the hammer throwers. I want to throw 80m this season and this has been a pleasing result to build on,” said El Seify. Fellow Aspire graduate student athlete Musab Ali Adam also claimed a bronze medal at 1500m race with a timing of 3:43.18 min.
The third medal for Qatar on the night came in men’s 4x400m with the quartet comprising Osman Ashraf, Abdalla Abubaker, Bassem Hemeida and Abderrahman Samba upgraded to bronze. Initially, Qatar finished fourth in the race with a time of 3.03.95 but were later promoted into third place after second-placed India were disqualified for obstruction. Japan won gold with China taking silver. Qatar wrapped up their campaign with 2 gold medals, a silver and 3 bronze medals.
