Aspire Academy has underlined its growing role in supporting elite athletes after shooter Ray Bassil won a silver medal for Qatar at the recent 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Bassil’s success followed a coordinated programme of strength and conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology, physiotherapy, and specialist medical support provided by Aspire Academy, with support from Aspetar.
The support began after Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation Secretary General Jassem Shaheen Al-Sulaiti submitted an official request to Aspire Academy.
After previous visits to the Academy, Bassil identified it as the ideal environment to prepare for elite competitions and pursue her performance objectives.
The agreement between Aspire Academy and Bassil has established a specialised programme of physical performance and nutrition support. The ongoing collaboration brings together expertise from the Academy’s Sports Department and Football Performance and Science team, alongside specialists from Aspetar.
The federation complements Aspire Academy’s performance services with technical input from Italian high-performance coach Marco Micheli, her trap shooting coach, ensuring her specialist training and broader preparation are closely aligned.
Bassil’s Asian Games silver medal highlights Aspire Academy’s capacity to provide high-performance support to elite athletes as well as developing youth talent for Qatar.
The four-time Olympian is currently preparing for the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships, which are being held in Qatar from 1 to 14 November.
Her long-term aims are to represent Qatar at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and at the 2030 Asian Games in Doha.
Aspire Academy’s high-performance model is built on its proven record of developing talented student-athletes into international sportsmen.
These capabilities, resources, and expertise also extend to its continued support for established elite athletes.
This approach creates a shared culture of excellence in which emerging talent and accomplished competitors benefit from world-class coaching, sports science, medicine and performance support.
By combining facilities, sports science, and specialist expertise, the Academy can meet the needs of elite and developing athletes across a range of sports and help them prepare to the highest standards.
