22 Oct 2019

Doha, 22 October 2019. On Tuesday morning, Aspire Academy hosted a university fair for its student-athletes in collaboration with EduCanada to showcase 17 universities from Canada. Thanks to the “Edu Canada Tour“, Grade 11 and 12 students from Aspire Academy, SEK International School Qatar and the Voltaire Qatari-French School had the chance to meet educational experts from international universities and learn about the various university programs.

Stemming from Aspire Academy’s mission to develop well-educated sports champions, the “EduCanada Tour” demonstrated a wide range of educational opportunities available after graduating from high school. Hosting the event reflects the Academy’s overarching goal of guiding and supporting students into educational paths that are rewarding, fulfilling and relevant to their career development goals after life at Aspire Academy.

Commenting on the “EduCanada Tour”, student-athlete Owaab Barrow said: “At this age it’s very important to think about the future and to find out about opportunities to continue doing sport on a professional level and how to combine it with further education. Therefore, I am always interested in such events.” Fellow Grade 12 student-athlete Malgu Abdulnaser also had another reason for asking many questions. “I am really interested in Canadian universities, because I also have family living in Canada and that’s why studying there is definitely an option for me. Of course, I also want to keep playing football, so I was carefully looking what they offered in terms of sport programs and scholarships.”

Commenting on the event, Karuna Ausman, International Marketing & Recruitment Specialist at the University of Waterloo, said: “Canada is a very multicultural country and international students are a very important part of our population. According to the United Nations we are in the top 5 when it comes to the quality of our education. We also have a cooperative education where students can work and study at the same time and a lot of industries are interested in international students that are studying there.”

The universities that attended the fair included: Acadia University, Brescia University College, Fraser International College, Government of Canada, Lakehead University, Langara College, North Island College, Pacific Link College, Saint Mary's University, SAIT, Sheridan College, Trent University, University Canada West, University of Alberta, University of Manitoba, University of Waterloo, University of Windsor.
