Aspire Academy student-athlete Adham Eldeeb took bronze at a Europe Fencing Confederation (EFC) event in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The 14-year-old, who is in grade 10, finished third overall at the European Cadets (Under-17) Circuit tournament in Gothenburg for the foil.
A total of 132 athletes from around the world took part in what is considered one of the most important under-17 events on the European Circuit.
His victory is proof of the excellent work done by Aspire Academy and the Qatar Fencing Federation in developing Qatar’s young fencers.
On his way to his bronze medal, Adham Eldeeb defeated several older opponents from nations with excellent fencing traditions, such as France and Hungary.
He only narrowly missed out on the final by a single point as he lost to the European Under-17 Champion Lauro Falchetto of Austria, who went on to win the title in Sweden.
Adham Eldeeb’s victories in Gothenburg have seen him rise up the rankings, and he is the highest-ranked fencer born in 2010.
There was also an excellent showing for the Qatar team at the EFC European Cadets (Under-17) Circuit event in Klagenfurt as they finished 4th out of the 38 teams in the epee event.
The team was made up of three Aspire Academy student-athletes: Abdulrahman Al-Jadra (Grade 11), Youssef Abdeltawab (Grade 10) and Ali Alkhlif (Grade 11).
One of their most impressive wins for Qatar was in the quarter-finals, as they showed great composure to beat the 10th–seeded Romanians.
In the semi-finals, they lost to the number six seeds and reigning world champions Italy.
These latest results demonstrate how Aspire Academy’s fencers are able to consistently compete with the best teams in the world.
November is a busy month with events for under-14s, under-17s, under-20s, and seniors in both foil and epee in Europe as well as Tunisia, Hong Kong and Japan.
