?Aspire Academy Squash Student Athletes excel in The Pioneer Junior Open Cup in Germany
Tuesday, July 9th, 2013, Doha, Qatar : Aspire graduate scholar Abdulla Al-Tamimi won the Under 19 event in convincing style beating the English number one seed Richie Fellows in a hard fought semi-final and then Israeli number one Daniel Poleshchuk in an entertaining final. Even though he has competed well every year in this even this was the first time he has reached a final and of course won. He was obviously elated to win here in Germany.
Current Aspire student Azlan Amjad was the other player that performed much better than in the past, this time finishing in 6th position in the Under 17 event. He has never made the last eight before in such a prestigious event so it was a very pleasing result to see him do so well. He only just lost his last match that would have given him one higher position but should feel proud of his squash during the tournament.
Of the other boys Ahmad Al-Homaidi did the best and demonstrated that he has all the potential to become a top player by finishing in 24th position in his first year in the Under 15 age group. All the others won at least one match except young Mohammed Al-Saadi who is still a relative novice at the game.
“Winning a match in the Pioneer Cup was always going to be difficult for him but it gave him a good introduction to top world junior squash,” said Head coach Geoffrey Hunt.
