Doha, 31 August 2020. Aspire Academy graduate and reigning Asian Player of the Year, Al Sadd’s striker Akram Afif has been voted QFA Player of the Year for a second successive year. The Board of Trustees of the QFA Award released the results of the final votes and it was double celebration for Afif who also finished the season as
joint-top scorer in the QNB Stars League (QSL), with 15 goals, same as Al Rayyan’s Algerian star Yacine Brahimi.
There was further joy for the Aspire Academy when another graduate, Tarek Salman of Al Sadd Club walked away with the Best Under 23 Player of the Year Award. Salman got 53.9% of the votes to win ahead of fellow Aspire graduates, Khalid Muneer who plays for Al Wakra and Homam El-Amin of Al Gharafa club.
The Qatar Football Association Award ceremony was cancelled this season as part of the country’s measures to combat the (COVID-19) pandemic. The winners were announced through the official website and social media platforms of QFA and Qatar Stars League and votes were cast by participants from QNB Stars League team coaches, Qatar national team coach, Qatar Olympic team coach, Team managers, Media representatives, Representative of QFA, Representative of Qatar Stars League, President and Board members of the QFA Awards Committee Board.
