?Incheon, 30 September 2014. The Qatari high jumper and Aspire Academy graduate Mutaz Essa Barshim took gold at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, on Monday with a leap of 2.35m, which is also an Asian Games record.
Zhang Guowei of China took silver with a jump of 2.33, and Barshim’s younger brother, Muamer Aissa, current student at Aspire Academy, won bronze with 2.25.
Other students or graduates of Aspire Academy that are competing at the Asian Games are Mohammed Al-Sulaiti, Abdulrahman Al-Naggar (table tennis), Mohammed Zain Al-Sunaidi (shooting), Walid Daloul (swimming), Faisal Mir Rizwan, Salah Al-Kaabi, Ali Al-Shahrani (golf) or Abdulla Al-Tamimi, who reached the quarter finals of the squash tournament.
