“International Al Bawasil Camp for Children with Diabetes” taking place at Aspire Academy

03 Feb 2015

Doha, 3 February 2015:Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is currently hosting its 15th international annual Al Bawasil Camp for children with diabetes at Aspire Academy. The “Al Bawasil International Spring Camp” is part of a variety of Qatar Foundation initiatives that promote healthcare in the State of Qatar through education and awareness of prevalent health problems, as well as providing effective ways to deal with them.

QDA’s camp also supports QF on its mission to be a catalyst for change by fostering and supporting children and parents to commit to positive health behaviours as it has done throughout the past 14 years. Al Bawasil, which takes place at Aspire Academy from 31 January to 5 February, is the largest camp in the region that brings together children with diabetes from across the MENA region and beyond for a week-long learning and activity-driven experience.

Once again, QDA is organising the Al Bawasil Camp so that children with diabetes from different countries can gather together, share experiences and improve their knowledge of diabetes. The programme is designed to help participants lead a healthy lifestyle, build their confidence in managing the condition and grow to become active members of their community.   The camp provides 100 children from 15 countries from the MENA region such as Qatar,Sudan, Afghanistan, Morocco, Pakistan, Iraq, India, Lebanon, Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia witha daily programme of education and fun activities supervised by a specialised medical team.

Workshops and other activities also form part of the camp, with some being held in collaboration with Aspire Academy highlighting the importance of sport in controlling the effects of diabetes. Aspire Academy is proud to continue our association with the Qatar Diabetes Association and Qatar Foundation by making our facilities and services available to them for the benefit of these children.  This support fits neatly with us since part of the mission of Aspire Academy is to create healthy, active lifestyle for the people of Qatar.
