05 Jul 2017

Doha, 5 July 2017. Aspire Zone Foundation owned club KAS Eupen transferred their top striker Henry Onyekuru to the Premier League club Everton FC after accepting an offer made for him. Everton will loan the player to Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Anderlecht for the next 12 months.

Henry Onyekuru, 20, scored twenty-two (22) goals for his Belgian Jupiler Pro League side KAS Eupen in their debut season in top-flight league and finished as joint top scorer with soon-to be new teammate, Lukasz Teodorczyk of Anderlecht. The Nigerian striker also made his senior international debut in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Togo in a friendly match played in June 2017

KAS CEO Christoph Henkel expressed his extreme pleasure about the successful closure of the transfer conversations with Everton FC. “From a sporting and financial point of view this transfer for KAS Eupen is the most important one in club’s history. We are happy for Henry Onyekuru that he could achieved such a big step in his career and we wish him well and great success in his new environment with Everton FC. We want to thank Henry for his immense pride, contribution and wonderful performances while wearing the jersey of KAS Eupen. He scored a total of 24 goals during the championship and cup games last season, which was the most by any player in our team. He was part of the prosperous first season of KAS Eupen in the top flight Belgian Jupiler Pro League and thank you for the memories and many great goals. Goodbye and good luck Henry!” said Christoph Henkle.

Henry Onyekuru began his football career after being selected through the Aspire Academy scouting program as one of the players to enter Aspire Football Dreams project in 2010. He would go on and graduate from the Senegal based Aspire Football Dreams project in 2015 and join  partner club, K.A.S. Eupen. Onyekuru made his debut for Eupen in September 2015 in the Belgian Second Division and helped the team get promoted to the Belgian First Division A in his debut season. Onyekuru‘s successful first season in the Belgium Jupiler Pro League and his goals caught the attention of various larger teams in Europe and not surprisingly Everton stepped up and bought him.
