Baku, 30 May 2017. Aspire Academy graduate Ahmed Bader Magour won gold for Qatar at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games Baku 2017 after throwing the javelin 83.45m in the men's final. Magour was one of the four Aspire Academy graduates who participated for Qatar at the last Olympics held in Rio, Brazil in 2016. By so doing Magour became the first-ever Qatari to compete in the javelin throw at Olympic Games. His qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was remarkably his first-ever senior participation and he was the youngest competitor in the discipline.
Another Aspire Academy graduate Ashraf Amgad Elseify finished third in the Men’s Hammer throw to claim bronze. 21 year old Magour beat second placed Ivan Zaytsev of Uzbekistan (78.66m) with bronze going to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem for his throw of 76.33m. In the Hammer throw 22 year old Elseify threw 73.17m but had the two Turkish athletes, Esref Apak and Ozkan Baltaci ahead of him as he settled for bronze.
