Aspire Academy is in the process of finalising the list of talented young track and field athletes who will be offered places at the Academy in September. The final stage of the selection process saw 40 promising youngsters from the 2013 generation undergo a series of tests on the Aspire Academy indoor track. Many of these young athletes have been part of Aspire Academy’s Pre-Academy Programme for several years, with some starting their journey as early as six years old.
The crucial final stage of the selection process featured five specialised evaluation stations designed to assess students’ athletic abilities and skills across a range of performance indicators. Aspire Academy coaches from different track and field disciplines were also on hand to evaluate the young hopefuls' potential to excel in specific athletic events, from jumps to throws to long distances and sprints.
Aspire Academy now aims to select between 18 and 20 students who will be offered a full-time scholarship at the Academy when the new academic year begins in September.
Speaking about the selection process, Mohamed Hamdy, Athletics Coach at Aspire Academy, emphasised:
“Today, we are looking for specific qualities in students, with talent being the most important factor, alongside physical attributes such as speed, agility, and endurance. Additionally, ambition, discipline, and parental support play a key role in a student’s ability to balance both academic studies and training.”
Those lucky enough to join the Academy will have the chance to develop and improve under the guidance of expert coaches. They will have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the Academy’s illustrious graduates, such as Olympic medallist Mutaz Barshim, along with recent Asian Champion Bassem Hemeida and Asian and World U20 Champion Mooaz Ibrahim.
Through these scouting events, Aspire Academy remains committed to identifying, developing, and empowering the next generation of sports stars, reinforcing its leading role in athletic development in Qatar.
