Manila, 30 November 2014: Aspire Academy graduate Ahmad Moein has been named “AFC Young Player of the Year 2014” at the AFC Annual Awards 2014 held in the Philippines on Sunday. Moein, who is currently playing for KAS Eupen in Belgium, has been part of Qatar’s successful U-19 national team that recently succeeded at the AFC U-19 Championship in Myanmar.
The 19-year-old midfielder has made a name of himself at the competition in Myanmar, having been named “Most Valuable Player” of the tournament. “Something that would not have been possible without my teammates and I am proud to be part of this great team,” the Qatari U-19 captain said after receiving the trophy in Myanmar.
Being selected as “AFC Young Player of the Year 2014” is, of course, a proud moment for the Qatari player. “It’s great and I am really thankful for the acknowledgement. But I also know that I am just at the beginning of my career and that there is still a long way to go. But receiving an award like this is, of course, an extra motivation”, commented Ahmad Moein.
Other awards were handed this night to Saudi Arabia striker Nassir Al Shamrani (AFC Player of the Year), Australia’s midfielder Katrina Lee Gorry (AFC Women’s Player of the Year), Tony Popovic (AFC Coach of the Year), Western Sydney Wanderers (AFC Club of the Year), Palestine (AFC National Team of the Year), Mile Jedinak (International Player of the Year) and Asamoah Gyan (Best Foreign Player of the Year).
