Doha, 14 March 2017. The 2016 -17 ASPIRE ACADEMY run Goalkeeper External Potential Program (GEEP) wound up with a certificate awarding closing ceremony at Aspire on Wednesday 8 March evening. This is an annual program organised by the Aspire Academy Football Department in collaboration with Qatar Football Association and the country’s top 18 clubs for the second tier goalkeepers of Qatar.
Academy’s Deputy Director General, Mr Ali Salem Afifa was joined in presenting the awards by QFA’ grassrrots goalkeeping program coordinator, Mr Maher Berkdar.
“The program whose main objective is to nurture and develop goalkeepers in Qatar and taking this specific and specialized part of the game of football to a top and competent level throughout the country sources the participants from club games, club trainings and Aspire Trial that is run solely for this purpose, “ said Willy Stavaert, Aspire Academy Senior goalkeeping coach.
In a word of encouragement to the young aspiring goalkeepers , Willy Stavaert highlighted the inspiration story of the current Aspire and national team U-17 goalkeeper, Mahmoud Abunada who rose from grassroots to national team.
