10 Mar 2016

Doha, 10 March 2016. Aspire Academy had nine players competing in the 2016 “Qatar & Doha Junior Open” at the Qatar Squash Federation, two Asian Junior circuit events held back to back in Doha from March 6-9. These two events are a regular on the Asian junior calendar and this year brought players from, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Hong Kong and Iraq.

Over the week the best result came from grade 8 student Waleed Zaman who, in his first year of the Under 15 age group, managed to reach the semi-finals of the Qatar Junior. Unfortunately for Waleed a knee injury prevented him from participating in the second event. Waleed’s older brother Umair also found some success in the Under 19 event at the Doha Junior reaching the semi-finals. This included a nail biting quarter final win where he beat the #3 seed from Hong Kong 3 games to 2.

Other significant performances came from Hamad Al-Amri, Rashid Al-Harib and Abdulaziz Al-Ishaq who all reached the quarter finals in their respective age groups throughout the week.
