The Aspire Student Athletes performed very well in the first local tournament played this school year.
Azlan Amjad won the Men’s A, Umair Zaman won the Men’s B and Under 17, and Hamad Al-Amri won the Under 13 event. Sadam Mehawesh was runner up to Umair Zaman in both the Men’s B and Under 17 while Ahmad Homaidi was runner up in the Under 13 event.
Both the Under 17 and Under 13 were played as a round robin and in the latter each boy had 9 matches overall. Hamad Al-Amri won all of his matches while Ahmad Homaidi won 8. In the Under 17 local Egyptian Elsayed put up stiff resistance against the Aspire players before ending in 3rd place.
Azlan Amjad convincingly won the Men’s A event winning all his matches 3/0 and also competed well in the Men’s Professional event by reaching the semifinals. Although still eligible to play the Under 17 he decided to only compete in the men’s competitions to get harder matches.
With no Under 15 event being played Abd El-Aziz Omeira had to move up an age group so found the going tough against the older boys. Two Aspire students didn’t compete due to injury – Faisal Al-Marri and Mohammed Al-Saadi. Likewise Aspire Graduate scholar Abdulla Al-Tamimi was still training overseas.
