Nairobi. Qatar athletes will line up along many other countries as attention turns to the postponed 2020 World Athletics U20 Championships which run from 17 to 22 August 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya. The Qatar team at the Championships includes Aspire Academy student-athletes and graduates as has been the case in the past.
Hailing from Aspire Academy and set to continue, Qatar’s impressive returns at the championships, this time round are 800m runner Elhafez Mahadi, 110m hurdler, Saeed Othman Zamzoun Al-Absi who will also be part of the 4 x 100m Relay team and Nayef Al Rashidi (4 x 100m Relay). There is also an athlete who was at Aspire Academy, Khalid Mahamat but trains with the Qatar Athletes Federation (QFA) with whom he has qualified for World Athletics U-20 Championships in for the 100m sprint.
The World Athletics U20 Championships scheduled to have started on 17 August will now begin one day later Wednesday 18 August due to the impact of Covid on teams travelling and logistics of moving vital equipment around the world have proven to be a challenge.
However, the full athletics programme is able to be accommodated across five days rather than five-and-a-half days with minimal impact on the athletes attending from more than 100 countries, said the message from the organisers.

16:40 – 100m Semi-Final – Mahamat Khalid
Day 2 – 19th Aug
10:05 – 800m Heats – Elhafez Mahadi
17:50 – 100m Final – Mahamat Khalid
Day 3 – 20th Aug
9:55 – 110mH Heats – Saeed Alabsi
15:30 – 110mH Semi-Final – Saeed Alabsi
Day 4 – 21st Aug
12:40 – 4 x 100m Relay Heats
15:30 – 800m Semi-Final – Elhafez Mahadi
16:15 – 110mH Final – Saeed Alabsi
Day 5 – 22nd Aug
15:30 – 800m Final – Elhafez Mahadi
16:45 – 4 x 100m Relay Final
