03 Oct 2016

Amsterdam, 3 October 2016. During the two-day-long ASPIRE4SPORT Congress and the Aspire Academy Global Summit held at the Amsterdam Arena, it was officially announced that the Italian Super Cup, the “Supercoppa TIM 2016” is going to be played on December 23 in Doha.

The press conference was attended by Marco Brunelli, Director General of Lega Serie A, and Mansoor Mohammed Al-Ansari, Secretary General of the Qatar Football Association and the trophy was presented for which Juventus and AC Milan are going to compete.

"We are very pleased to once again host the Italian Super Cup in Doha after the huge success of 2014”, said Mansoor Mohammed Al-Ansari. “It will be fascinating to organize this match between Juventus and AC Milan, two of the world's best known clubs, and it will be helping our path to Qatar 2022.”

"We return to Qatar with great satisfaction and good memories from the previous experience”, commented Marco Brunelli. “We have been welcomed very well and we tested the organizational abilities of our partner, who is eager to see a major game as the one between Juventus and Milan. We receive many requests to bring our football abroad, what makes us very proud.”

It is the ninth time the Italian Super Cup will be played outside of Italy: before heading to Doha in 2016 it was hosted in Washington in 1993, in Tripoli in 2002, in New York in 2003, in Beijing in 2009, 2011 and 2012, in Doha in 2014 and in Shanghai in 2015.
