Doha, 5 September 2016. Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) has embarked on an ambitious restructuring and reform of its football organization. The reform has been initiated directly by the Italian FA’s current President Carlo Tavecchio with the goal of elevating Italy’s competitiveness in the world arena to new heights. Such strategic decision will be carried out through the launch of four new supporting departments at FIGG. As part of this exercise, the Italians have sought world leading partners and experts in various fields – in the Performance, Scouting, Medical and Analytics departments to work.
For the Performance & Research Department, FIGC has reached out to the Qatar Football Association and Aspire Academy for expertise. The inclusion of the QFA and Aspire in the select pool of worldwide experts approached by the Italian FA for such critical project in Italy is a strong statement about the developments that have been made by Qatar’s football bodies in recent years. The partnership between one of football’s oldest and most accomplished Associations will see the QFA’s and Aspire’s Director of Football Performance and Science, Prof. Valter Di Salvo, lead the design and implementation of Italy’s national football body performance programs. The Qatar Football Association and Aspire are increasingly becoming an international reference at the forefront of innovation, research and performance pathways as recognized by FIGC through this first of its kind partnership.
