Doha, 24 January 2016. Aspire Academy and Qatar Golf Academy have extended their partnership to support the development of Golf for girls.
Aspire’s Multi-sport Skill Development (MSSD) program works with girls aged 7-12 to help inspire them to take part in sport for life.
This autumn, Qatar Golf Association in the care of female coach Reb Sotelo Bareng, has commenced coaching eight girls from across Doha at it facilities at Doha Golf Club. These girls have been invited to join the program following a number of screening sessions, which introduced over 20 girls to the sport during October and November.
Golf Academy Director, Mike Shoery said: “We are delighted to be maintaining our positive partnership with Aspire’s MSSD girls, and are excited about the progress that our new group of girls is making. We hope that soon some of them will join their fellow MSSD graduates who have now joined our Academy program on a permanent basis.”
Over the past two years, six girls have transferred from MSSD sessions into the Golf Academy’s program. “Our partnership with QGA is a great opportunity to boost sports participation levels for girls and young women and introduce them to a wide range of sport options. We have seen already how quickly girls can pick up the sport and make good progress, and we look forward to helping to identify more successful players over the coming months and years,” said Trevor Smith, Aspire’s Head of MSSD. The Aspire Girls Golf Programme selects talented/gifted girls from the Aspire Multi-Sports Programme , and uses Talent Identification from school Scouting and teacher recommendations.
This week the girls of the programme are going to be guests of the ‘Commercial Bank Qatar Masters’ tournament hosted by Doha Golf Club between January 27 and 30.
