Aspire Academy graduate Abdulla Al Tamimi has reached a new career high of 22 in the latest Professional Squash Association rankings.
Al Tamimi moved up from 28 to 22 after he reached the semi-finals of the Robertson Lodges New Zealand Open 2022.
His spot at 22 in the rankings released on Monday 14 November is one place higher than he achieved in November 2018.
As number 7 seed he was given bye in the first round in Tauranga before an easy 3-0 win over Hungary’s Balazs Farkas in the second round. In the quarter finals he enjoyed another 3-0 win this time over Canada’s David Baillargeon before losing top seed and local favourite Paul Coll 3-0 in the last four.
His run to the last four in New Zealand also saw Al Tamimi move up to 12th spot in the race to qualify for next year’s World Tour Finals in Cairo, Egypt, which will feature the top 8 players over the course of the season.
His next tournament begins on Tuesday 15 November when he faces Egypt’s world number 8 Fares Dessouky in the first round of the MARIGOLD Singapore Open.
