Aspire’s Hamad AlSultan claimed silver for Qatar in the discus at the Arab Under-18 Athletics Championships in Taif, Saudi Arabia.

The grade 12 student-athlete, who is coached by Zane Duquemin, threw 56.11 metres, finishing second behind his compatriot Mohamed Mohamed, who threw 56.84m.

“It was a great performance for Hamad,” his coach explained.

“Of course, he always wants to throw further, but every championship he competes in provides valuable experience for the bigger championships to come in his future.”

The event featured 18 nations, with Qatar winning 5 medals: 2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.

In the 110m hurdles, 16-year-old Hissein Mahamat Abakar finished third in his heat to qualify for the final, where he placed fifth overall.

There were valuable lessons and experiences for Aspire’s two other members of the Qatar team as Hamza Hashem and Younes Al-Balushi failed to record marks in the long jump and the pole vault, respectively.
