Aspire Academy student-athlete Adham Eldeeb has claimed back-to-back bronze medals at European Fencing Cadet Circuit foil events in Poland and then in Slovakia.
Both competitions attracted over 230 under-17 participants from more than 32 nations from around the globe.
At both events, Adham Eldeeb, who began grade 11 in September, won all six of his pool matches to progress to the knockout phase. He was given a bye in the first round before going on to win five additional bouts, which secured his spot in the semi-finals. In the final four of both tournaments, he faced and lost to the eventual champions.
At the event in Poland, Abdulrahman Poorgharib (grade 11) also had an excellent run, reaching the last 16 before losing and ultimately ranking 15th overall. In Slovakia, against some tougher opponents, he finished 121st overall.
At both competitions, Abdullah Dakak (grade 10) won 5 of his six pool matches before finishing tied for 45th overall, and improved on that performance in Slovakia, claiming 27th place. Omar Deif (grade 11) and Yousuf Ibrahim (grade 10) both continued their development with valuable competitive experience, finishing 104th and 141st in Poland and then 113th and 115th in Slovakia, respectively.
Adham Eldeeb, Abdulrahman Poorgharib, Abdullah Dakak and Omar Deif then joined forces to represent Qatar in the team event. They lost in the quarter-finals to China, who went on to finish as runners-up. In the play-offs, they first lost to the USA’s second team before overcoming Italy to finish 7th overall out of 34 teams.
The quartet also teamed up for Qatar in the team event in Italy, replicating their 7th-place finish. They lost again in the quarter-finals this time narrowly to Hungary, who eventually finished as runners-up. They beat Romania in their final match to finish 7th of the 40 teams (representing 17 nations) taking part.
